Partnership

Introduction | Active School Week | Physical Education | Physical Activity | Partnership

As a school, we worked together to find an ASF motto and chose two that we liked best. These are displayed in all classrooms.

Our ASF committee was established at the start of the process and we held monthly meetings. The committee have carried out many tasks eg. attend meetings, provide feedback to their class, take charge of equipment at break times, become playground leaders, carry out a What Club Are You In ? survey, record scores for the Tour of Europe, come up with ideas for Active School Week, encourage their classmates to become more active, become line leaders for Active Lines, keep PE equipment room tidy etc.

During the year, we held assemblies to acknowledge sporting achievements. We have collected newspaper cuttings of children who appeared in the local newspapers and stuck them into a scrapbook. We also have a Well Done Wall where we celebrate pupil’s sporting achievements. A What Club Are You In survey was conducted by the committee. We found out that our children are involved with 17 different clubs. Questionnaires were also distributed to parents and pupils to provide us with feedback on PE and physical activity.

We have built up strong partnerships over the years with many clubs and local agencies.

*Dungarvan College provide us with plc students from their Sports, Exercise and Coaching course. We receive coaching throughout the year in soccer, rugby, spikeball and GAA.

*Waterford Sports Partnership provide us with balance bike training and the use of balance bikes and helmets for our infants. They support us during bike week by funding our activities and accompanying us on our annual cycle to Clonea beach. Our 6th class has been introduced to fishing through WSP.  They have also provided us with stencils for our playground markings.

*Go Dungarvan very kindly donated a set of bikes and helmets for the older classes. The girls use them to cycle to matches and various locations close by, not to mention our annual cycle to Clonea beach. They have also been used for cycle training.

*Dungarvan GAA Club have provided us with hurling coaching with 1st class for over 12 years. The boys and girls enjoy these coaching sessions. We would like to thank Conor and Stephen who came in this year.

*Barry Dunne (western GDA) visits us to deliver football and hurling coaching. He is very good with the children and has great ideas and games to get everyone involved.

*Lada our Zumba teacher has been a fantastic edition since last year. She brings good vibes and great music. The children look forward to their dancing.

*Goal Jersey Day we have a strong association with GOAL on this day. The children and staff love to dress up in their favourite jersey and raise much needed funds at the same time. This year we had a visit from Mura who did some workshops with the older classes.

*Cookery classes with Brid are enjoyed by both children and adults. The children invite in their parents or grandparents to help out. The two first classes and second class have enjoyed her healthy eating recipes this year.

*Aldi ran a competition where the children collected rugby stickers. We managed to fill an incredible four wall charts. Thank you to all the children and staff for making a great effort.

*Wellness Week took place in January. Mrs. Barry organised guest speakers, fruit and veg tasting, visit to The Country Store to look at all the wonderful fruit and veg. and mindfulness exercises.
