Children’s Books Ireland

Updated: 18th May 2023

St Mary’s Primary School has been chosen by Children’s Books Ireland to take part in the Every Child a Reader project!

Over 640 schools in Ireland applied to take part in this project and we are one of only 15 schools chosen to take part.

We received over 200 new and brilliant books from Children’s Books Ireland for the school library. There’s something for everyone from animals to sports, comics to fact-books.

We were given art supplies to create our own Monster Doodle demonstrated by author and illustrator Chris Judge in a special video to show the children exactly how this is done.

In the coming months we will also be visited by our very own Champion of Reading/ author/Aisling O’ Loughlinn who will lead 6 fun, creative workshops with the children, in writing and drawing. To top it all off we will receive more library books in September to the value of €1000.

We had certain challenges to complete as part of the programme . For example creating our monster doodle, watching our favourite artist/ illustrator videos and joining in with some of the creative activities they set, reading a book and if you enjoy it, recommend it to a friend, reading in an unusual place, D.E.A.R. Time etc.

Another one of our challenges is to complete a survey about reading and books . Your child may do this at home or in school. This is the link –

We are looking forward to our next consignment of books from Children’s Books Ireland .
