Author, Emma Cahill, Visits St. Mary’s PS

Updated: 14th Jan 2020

We had a lovely start to the new term last Monday, as author Emma Cahill paid us a visit. Over 80 schools applied for a much desired visit from Emma and St. Marys was so fortunate to be one if the lucky few to be chosen.

Emma is a primary teacher, currently teaching in Brazil, who penned a beautiful children’s book called Under the Mask. The book helps children to “recognise and deal with sadness, anger and worry” in a very child friendly way, namely through superheroes Blaze, Crash and Rustle.

Our pupils had previously engaged in an online interactive lesson with Emma for Mental Health Day so there was great excitement to finally meet her in person. Emma’s warmth, energy and enthusiasm had the girls enthralled as she facilitated an interactive workshop on taking care of our mental health. The characters in the book are very relatable for children and we would hope that our children would use some of the strategies they explored with Emma if they needed them.
Many thanks to Emma for including St. Marys in her book tour. We really enjoyed meeting her and exploring the book further. Watch this space for information on our upcoming ‘Wellness Week’.
