Ag Spraoí le Sumaí-Maths on the Greenway

Updated: 29th Jan 2020

Our school is very fortunate to be part of a cluster of schools involved in a project, being piloted by the Department of Education & Skills, to promote problem solving while using the Greenway https://www.greenwaypathsandpuzzles.com/home.

The four schools involved are St. Mary’s P.S., Scoil Gharbháin, St. Augustine’s College and Kilmacthomas P.S. We propose using the Greenway as an outdoor classroom to develop mathematical problem solving skills and motivation in our pupils. We also hope that adult users will re-engage with maths and problem solving while using the Greenway.

St. Augustine’s College recently facilitated a problem solving workshop in their school for all the participating primary schools. The children were thoroughly engaged for the two hours, moving from station to station solving the problems introduced to them by the students of fifth year. The excitement, as children moved from station to station, was testament to the organisation of the event itself and the work put in behind the scenes by the staff of St. Augustine’s. We sincerely thank all those involved and look forward to our next collaboration together.
