Feel Good Friday

Day five and the final day of Active School Week was titled Feel Good Friday. The classes got involved in a range of activities on the day from bubble discos to football coaching, yoga to athletics. Congratulations to all the teachers and pupils who made it a very successful week. The feedback from the children was overwhelmingly positive and they are looking forward to ASW 2022 already! Take On The Teacher Thursday

Day four of Active School Week was Take On The Teacher. Most of the classes chose to do a penalty shootout. Great fun was had, trying to score a goal against the teacher. We have some skillful strikers in our midst. Well done to all those who managed to defeat their teacher! (more…)

Walking Wednesday

Day three of our Active School Week was titled Walking Wednesday. Classes were asked to walk around our school grounds using the Active School Walkway or to venture outside the gates along the seashore. The children were asked to walk and talk or to take part in a mindfulness walk. Along the mindfulness walk, the boys and girls were asked to use their senses. What can they see, hear, smell and touch? The children enjoyed being outdoors once again. Well done to all the classes who took part. (more…)

Food Dudes

All the pupils in St. Mary’s are taking part in a healthy eating programme called Food Dudes. It gives the children an opportunity to try new fruit and vegetables. It will run for 10 weeks and the boys and girls will receive an award and a certificate at the end. Thank you to Ms. Power for organising. (more…)

Picker Pal Pea Planting

The girls from 2nd and 3rd class took part in the Picker Pal pea planting initiative. They chose a beautiful day to head outside to plant their peas. On returning to the classroom they wrote about the process. We look forward to seeing the fruits of their labour soon.  (more…)

Tuesday Tunes

Day two of our Active School Week was Tuesday Tunes and what a fantastic response. Classes were encouraged to get up on their feet and dance. Some classes used TikTok dances including Jerusalema, others used the Gummy Bear dance while more chose their favourite song like I Got This Feeling. Looks like we have some great movers. Well done to everyone for taking part. As the catchphrase goes, keep dancing!  (more…)

Move It Monday

As part of Active School Week, the children enjoyed lots of physical activities today. Many of the classes got to enjoy the glorious sunshine while taking part in activities outside. The classes took part in football coaching, athletics, playground games, 10 @ 10, rounders to name a few. The children were also encouraged to be active during breaktimes. Some of the classes were assigned active homework too. Here’s hoping the weather will be just as nice tomorrow! (more…)

Junior Infant Aistear

There was great excitement when Mrs. Ryan’s junior infants got to discover the new Aistear theme … The Farm. They went outside to the Aistear area and visited the different stations to try out the activities for themselves. The boys and girls had great fun in the farm shop, growing vegetables, wearing animal masks, playing with the farm animals and even milking a cow! Wow, what a busy morning.  (more…)

Junior Infants Outdoors

Not to be outdone by some of the other classes, junior infants decided to take part in outdoor learning too. In maths, they were sorting and counting and wrote letters and words for literacy. What a fun way to learn. Well done everyone! (more…)

More Outdoor Learning

First class got to take advantage of the lovely weather and took their maths lesson outdoors. They paired up with their buddy to complete the task out in the playground. They even had carpet squares for comfort! (more…)
