World Book Day 2019

Updated: 13th Mar 2019

World Book Day was celebrated in St. Mary’s PS on the 7th of March.

World Book Day is Ireland’s biggest annual event promoting the enjoyment of books and reading. The main aim is to encourage children to explore the pleasure of books and reading by providing them with an opportunity to have a book of their own. Each child is given a voucher which they can exchange for a book at participating stores.

There are many initiatives in St. Mary’s that encourage children to read and develop their reading skills: Literacy Lift Off, Guided Reading, Reading Buddies, Reading as Friends and much more. The children can choose from an extensive range of books from two well stocked libraries, as well as their class library.

Many activities took place during World Book Day in St. Mary’s. The girls from fourth class brought in their favourite book, along with a prop, to discuss their choices with each other.
